Jackie Dwyer, Gettysburg Area Recreational Authority (GARA) Executive Officer, will resign her position effective October 11, 2019.

Dwyer
Dwyer has been in the position for three years and has made substantial contributions to the park and the community.
Dwyer said moving and rededicating the Biser fitness trail, installing the new Kiwanis playground, creating new pickleball courts, obtaining grant funding for the baseball fields, and installing solar-powered lighting in the parking lots were big achievements.
Dwyer also worked to update GARA’s online presence, expanding its media presence by 300 percent, she said.

Dwyer said she also did “lots of community relationship building,” naming connections with the Giving Spree and Healthy Adams County as two examples.
Dwyer said being in Gettysburg was a “fantastic experience. There is a lot of opportunity here and the community is willing to work with the rec park. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last three years I’ve spent with this community,” she said.
Dwyer is moving to a new position as Parks and Recreation Director of a large county park in California. Her new responsibilities will include three regional parks with five golf courses and a host of activities.
“It’s a really good opportunity for my family,” said Dwyer.
In her statement of resignation, Dwyer said “I have learned a great deal, met some amazing people, and have had the opportunity to work with many of you. The rec park is a wonderful space that holds countless memories for the community members and a promise for generations to come. I will take with me nothing but fondness for this area and the people who live here. I wish you all nothing but the best and look forward to visiting in the future.”
GARA board chairman Steve Toddes said the board would begin trying to fill the position immediately and that Dwyer would be involved in the process of trying to replace her.
