Gettysburg Borough Council President Jake Schindel will resign this month

Gettysburg Borough Council president Jake Schindel has purchased a house outside the borough and, because council membership requires borough residency, will resign from the council.

Schindel said he would tender his resignation on July 12 and expected the council to accept the resignation on July 26.

Schindel was originally elected in 2014 as a representative of Ward 2 and was elected president in 2020.

Schindel grew up in Orrtanna, attended Gettysburg High School and Gettysburg College, and is a long-time proprietor of the Ragged Edge Coffee House.

In an interview with the Connection in in 2019 Schindel anticipated he and his family would be looking for a house, hopefully in the borough, but that he expected that he would not be running for reelection in the future.
