In light of a recent rash of vehicle break-ins, police have issued suggestions for preventative action. Following is the official statement from the Gettysburg Borough Police Department:
“In recent weeks, there has been a notable escalation in vehicle thefts and instances of theft from vehicles across our region, encompassing boroughs and townships in South Eastern Adams County and South Western York County. Law enforcement agencies are actively collaborating to deter and resolve these criminal activities. Should anyone possess pertinent information regarding these incidents, we encourage you to reach out to Adams County Control at 717-334-8101 or directly contact the respective Police Department handling the case. Alternatively, individuals may opt to submit anonymous tips via our Gettysburg Police Department Crime Watch site at https://adams.crimewatchpa.com/gettysburgpd/118818/webforms/submit-tip.”

In order to mitigate the risk of becoming a victim, we emphasize the following safety precautions:
- Remove Keys: Never leave keys inside your vehicle, as this significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access.
- Secure Doors: Ensure that all vehicle doors are securely locked, even when parked in seemingly safe locations.
- Conceal Valuables: Avoid leaving valuable items visible within the vehicle, as this may attract opportunistic thieves.
