Gettysburg Borough seeks interim council member

Gettysburg Borough Council at-large member and president Jacob Schindel submitted his resignation to the council on Monday and the council will formally vote to accept the resignation at its business meeting on August 9.

The council is seeking qualified candidates who live in the borough to serve on the council until January 2022 when a replacement will be chosen through a municipal election held in November to serve the final two years of Schindel’s term..

The council will vote to appoint Mr. Schindel’s successor at a special meeting to be held on August 23.

Gettysburg residents are encouraged to apply for the position by completing the application below and returning it to the Borough Secretary Sara Stull no later than Monday, August 9, 2021.

The earliest Council may act to fill the vacancy is Monday, August 23, 2021.

Qualifications for Appointment to Borough Council

The following criteria must be met in order to be appointed to the interim seat:

  1. Permanent residency in the Borough for no less than a full year prior to appointment
  2. Must be registered to vote in Gettysburg Borough, and
  3. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at time of appointment.
