Gettysburg Borough to Host Public Shredding Event

FREE to Borough Gettysburg Residents; $2 Per Box for Non-Borough Residents

As a service for Borough residents and a courtesy for neighboring municipalities, Gettysburg Borough will host a document shredding event on Friday, August 20, at the Borough’s Public Works Building, 457 East Middle Street, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 17325.  Borough residents may participate free of charge, and residents of nearby municipalities may do so at a small fee of $2 per box.

In order to keep traffic moving smoothly during the drive-through event, preregistration is required in order to receive a fifteen minute time window appointment.  This can be accomplished online at www.gettysburgpa.gov/recycling or by calling Judie Butterfield at 717-337-0724 between 8 and 5 on weekdays.

Accepted for shredding will be clean paper of any color or size, and standard  file folders.  There is no need to remove staples.  Documents should be presented in cardboard boxes which will be returned intact to the participant.

The Harrisburg-based company the Borough will use is Higher Information Group (HIG), which specializes in document storage, shredding, and conversion services. HIG employees are bonded and insured to guarantee security of documents processed.  Shredding will take place immediately at the site and shredded material is recycled at the Going Green paper mill.

All shredded material is baled to ensure compliance with National Association of Information Destruction standards.  HIG will provide the Borough a Document Destruction Certificate stating all shredded material had been recycled.
