Gettysburg College to host first-ever night football game Oct. 4

Gettysburg College will host its first-ever home football night game against McDaniel College on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Thanks to the generous support of 25 College alumni and families, four towers of LED lights were lifted into the sky surrounding the track around Shirk Field this past summer, creating the opportunity for the first night events in the almost 60-year history of the venue.

To celebrate this monumental milestone, Gettysburg College is welcoming the community to enjoy the spectacle and take part in activities leading up to and during the game, including a pre-game tailgate with food and games beginning at 4:30 p.m.

As the start of the game approaches, the Bullets Marching Band will lead the College’s varsity athletics teams into the stadium before beginning their pre-game show. The Marching Band, which is celebrating its 115th anniversary this year, will also perform at halftime of the contest.

Admission to the game is free. The earliest arrivals at the stadium will receive a commemorative rally towel and game program. During the game, College staff will add to the fervor by launching free t-shirts into the crowd.

The new lights will allow for not only night football games, but also night competitions for the other varsity athletic teams that call Musselman Stadium home: men’s lacrosse, field hockey, and men’s and women’s track and field. The men’s lacrosse team will play their first night contest at home against Swarthmore College on Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m.

For those unable to attend the event, follow all the live action on the Centennial Conference Digital Network and visit GettysburgSports.com after the game for a full recap.
