Gettysburg Community Theatre Unveils Exciting Summer Line-Up

Gettysburg Community Theatre is gearing up for a spectacular summer, filled with an array of camps and performances designed to captivate and educate young performers. The theatre has announced its schedule for June 2024, with registrations now open and quickly filling up.

Starting June 17, the theatre offers a week-long Creative Dramatics Half Day Camp for children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. This camp, running from 9 am to noon daily, will immerse the young participants in a magical world of fairies and dragons, incorporating games, crafts, music, and storytelling.

For older students, grades 3 through 9, the theatre is hosting a Theatre Arts Full Day Camp. It kicks off on the same day and features a diverse program including theatre games, acting lessons, and rehearsals for a play scheduled for that weekend. Participants will need to attend each day from 9 am to 4 pm to prepare for the performance, which will occur on Friday at 4 pm and Saturday at 2 pm.

One of the highlights is the play “I Wish…a fairy’s fairy tale,” a unique twist on the classic Cinderella story told from the perspective of a sassy, hardworking fairy godmother named Carol. Chaos ensues as Carol attempts to bake brownies, only to be interrupted by a series of unexpected visitors, each with their own wish, culminating in comedic misunderstandings and a dragon-induced crisis.

Additionally, the theatre will continue its tradition of staging popular musicals with several performances of “Kinky Boots” scheduled for the weekends of June 14-30. The Tony-winning musical, celebrated for its heartwarming narrative and vibrant score by Cyndi Lauper, tells the uplifting story of Charlie Price and Lola, an entertainer who inspires Charlie to transform his family’s struggling shoe factory.

Tickets for all performances are available online, with the theatre also encouraging community support through donations and advertising opportunities.
