Gettysburg Choral Society to celebrate America through three concerts

The Gettysburg Choral Society is excited to kick off its summer-long salute to America.

The society’s concert, “Let Freedom Ring!” will be held 8 p.m., Friday, May 26 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 60 East High Street, Gettysburg. The performance, under the direction of John McKay,  will feature some of our country’s favorite songs and a musical rendition of “The Gettysburg Address.” The chorus will also be joined by Gettysburg’s Flute Flock, directed by Georgia Hollabaugh.

The Gettysburg Choral Society will perform three concerts this summer.

Those who are unable to attend Friday, or those who do attend and leave excited for an encore, will have two more opportunities to enjoy the Gettysburg Choral Society this summer. The chorus will perform 8 p.m., June 30, at the First United Methodist Church of Hanover, 200 Frederick Street, Hanover, and 8 p.m., July 3, at The Church of the Abiding Presence on the campus of United Lutheran Seminary, Gettysburg.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Tax-deductible donations support the society.

The Gettysburg Choral Society was formed in 2017 and includes members from surrounding counties. The chorus is open to all singers ages 18 and above who match the specific needs of the chorus and demonstrate vocal competence. Prior choral singing experience and the ability to read music are a requirement.

The choir will host auditions 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 12 and 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 21. Interested singers must schedule an appointment by contacting McKay at 717-476-1054 or zoemckay@aol.com.
