Gettysburg Area High School thespians are excited for the public to attend its spring musical, “Pippin,” this weekend.
As told by a traveling troupe of actors led by the cunning and charming Leading Player (played by Emma Kirk), the show is the story of a young prince (played by Connor Peterman) who is searching for his own “corner of the sky.”

Pippin returns from university certain he will find a fulfilling purpose in life. As encouraged by the Leading Player, Pippin dabbles in bloody battle, romantic entanglements, and savvy political maneuvers, only to discover true happiness is more complicated than he thought.
With infectious tunes by Stephen Schwartz and classic choreography from Bob Fosse, Pippin is both a humorous allegory about growing up and a dark tale of the danger of false appearances and empty promises.
“These students have surprised me again and again. We had such high expectations throughout this rehearsal process, but they continue to raise the bar,” Kate Sainer, who co-directs the show with Megan Coolbaugh, said. “The students have been incredibly coachable and taken risks on their own. All of it is about to payoff with these performances this weekend.”

Students take to the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4 and 2 p.m., Saturday. Tickets are available at the door or online.
“Every part of this production is from the students— pit, crew, set design, the show artwork, etc.,” Sainer said. “Gettysburg is overflowing with talent.”
