A special evening of remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will bring family members of the 40 heroes aboard United Airlines Flight 93 to Gettysburg this fall.

The commemorative program is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, one day after the anniversary, as a featured event of the Gettysburg Film Festival. It is being presented through a partnership between Gettysburg History and the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial.

The centerpiece of the evening will be a conversation with relatives of the Flight 93 passengers and crew, who will share personal memories and reflect on the courage and sacrifice of their loved ones.

United Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew fought back against hijackers during the Sept. 11 attacks, preventing the aircraft from reaching its intended target. All 40 passengers and crew members were killed.

The program will also include a screening of the acclaimed 2006 film *United 93*, directed by Paul Greengrass. The film chronicles the events aboard Flight 93 and has been widely recognized for its portrayal of the passengers’ actions during the attack.

In addition to the screening, cast members and others involved in bringing the story to the screen are expected to participate in the evening’s program, offering insights into the making of the film and the importance of preserving the legacy of those aboard the flight.

The event is intended to provide an opportunity for reflection while helping ensure that the story of Flight 93 continues to be shared with future generations.

Tickets are $25, with proceeds benefiting both the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial and Gettysburg History. The funds will support ongoing efforts to preserve and interpret the history of Flight 93 and honor the lives of the passengers and crew.

Complimentary admission will be available for any family members of the Flight 93 victims who wish to attend the event.
