Gettysburg Foundation to host “Encounters with History: Paint Like a President”

The Gettysburg Foundation invites history enthusiasts, art lovers, and community members to a special event, “Encounters with History: Paint Like a President,” Saturday, Feb. 16, 2025. Part of the Foundation’s “Encounters with History” series, this unique event combines history, art, and hands-on creativity to explore the legacy of President Dwight D. Eisenhower as both a statesman and an artist.

The event begins at 3 p.m. in the Saloon at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center with a free, 30-minute presentation by Eisenhower National Historic Site Ranger Dan Vermilya. Ranger Vermilya will share insights into Eisenhower’s artistic passion and the stories behind his works. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Following the presentation, ticketed participants can enjoy an exclusive paint night experience from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests will recreate Eisenhower’s “Potted Pink Hydrangeas,” an iconic piece that still hangs in the Eisenhower home at Eisenhower National Historic Site. This first-of-its-kind program in the series offers a creative and memorable way to connect with history. The paint night includes hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar catered by Battlegrounds Hospitality, making it a fun and enriching experience for all.

The opening presentation is free and open to the public. Ticket reservations are required for the paint night portion. Space is limited, so early reservations are encouraged.
