Borough Manager Charles Gable announced today that Gettysburg has been awarded gold status by the Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification program.

In earning the certification, Gettysburg Borough is acknowledged for its progress in such areas as community design and land use, energy efficiency, health and wellness, intergovernmental cooperation, recycling and waste reduction, fiscal controls, and internal management and operations
Gettysburg met the criteria by having, among other things:
- Professional municipal operations, and effective civic engagement
- A historical review board
- A comprehensive public safety plan
- A formal energy audit showing that municipal energy use has declined overall at least 15%,
- Appropriate and ecological water, stormwater, sewer, and stormwater systems
- Plans and ordinances to protect wetlands and waterways
- A full range of housing opportunities throughout the community
- Trails for walking and bicycling
- Attractive sidewalks and the promotion of parks, green spaces, and open land
- Action plans for promoting minority and women-owned business
Gettysburg will host the annual Pennsylvania Municipal League Summit October 3-6, 2019 where we will receive special recognition.
