INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA has announced the regional hosts for the 2023 NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse tournament, and Gettysburg learned that its road to Salem will run through Lexington, Va., next weekend.
Washington and Lee will host one of the four regional sites on Saturday and Sunday. The four regional winners advance to the national semifinals at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Va., on Friday, May 26.
The Bullets (16-4) will take on the host Generals (19-1) in the first third-round game on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. Salisbury (14-3) and York (Pa.) (17-3) will square off in the day’s second third-round game at 4 p.m. Saturday’s winners will meet in Sunday’s quarterfinal game at 2:30 p.m.
Gettysburg advanced to the regional weekend with a 15-6 win over Christopher Newport on Sunday. Washington and Lee defeated Capital in the second round, 22-5. Salisbury was a 20-3 winner over Meredith, and York (Pa.) topped Stevens 8-6 in their respective second-round games.
The Bullets played all three teams during the regular season at home in three consecutive games. Washington and Lee defeated Gettysburg 10-9 in overtime on Mar. 4. Salisbury was a 10-8 winner over the Bullets on Mar. 11. Gettysburg defeated York 19-9 on Mar. 15.
Junior Jordan Basso (Rye, N.Y./Rye) leads the team and conference with 102 points this season. Her 66 goals pace the conference, while her 36 assists are second. Junior Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and senior Katie Fullowan (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) have 74 and 70 points, respectively, on the year. Fullowan is second on the team with 51 goals while adding 19 assists. Sullivan leads the team and conference with 43 assists while adding 31 goals. Sullivan also has a team-best 37 ground balls.
Sophomore Lily Macatee (Street, Md./North Harford) has a team-best 110 draw controls to go with 21 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Senior Essie Pasternak (Short Hills, N.J./Blair Academy) paces the team with 22 caused turnovers and has 33 ground balls and 15 draw controls.
Junior Gillian Cortese (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) has backstopped a defense that has posted a 7.33 goals-against average. She has made 100 saves for a .472 save percentage and has a 7.79 goals-against average.
