The Gettysburg Nature Alliance, which operates the Gettysburg Heritage Center, invites the community to an open house on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the organization’s “learning barn” near Sachs Bridge.
“We are so excited to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day,” said Dru Anne Neil, Nature Alliance president. “We know the community is anxious to see the barn, and we are thrilled to invite everyone to stop by, learn about the Nature Alliance and Heritage Center, and see the inside of the new structure.”

The learning barn will help the Nature Alliance meet its mission of preserving and educating about Gettysburg’s heritage and habitat and will be used for mission-related programs. In honor of Earth Day, the Nature Alliance hopes to plant trees during the open house (weather permitting).
“We have some plans for the area near the barn that will help preserve and complement the amazing natural habitat, and people will hear more about that during the coming months,” said Neil. “Everything we’re doing is designed to demonstrate the importance of both heritage and habitat and encourage people to be outdoors and appreciate the environment in which we live.”
Directions to the Learning Barn
Open-house attendees can take Steinwehr Avenue/Emmitsburg Road south and make a right on Pumping Station Road. Follow Pumping Station Road past the Eisenhower National Historic Site toward Sachs Bridge. Take the left turn IMMEDIATELY AFTER the turnoff for the bridge. Light refreshments will be available, and Nature Alliance board members will make brief remarks at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome.
