Gettysburg Police Officers Shannon Hilliard, Kevin McDonald, and Douglas Fishel received written commendations, medals, and plaques thanking them for their services from Mayor Ted Streeter and Police Chief Robert Glenny at last Monday’s borough council meeting.

Streeter and Glenny praised the “diligence and confidence” of the officers as they responded to an unconscious young adult male suffering an opioid overdose and who was in cardiac arrest. The officers administered CPR and Narcan, a drug that reverses the effects of opioids.
While presenting the award to patrolman Hilliard, Streeter read from the commendations, saying “based on your calm administration of life-saving techniques this man is alive today. Your actions are a credit to yourself, the Gettysburg Police department, and law enforcement in general.”
