Gettysburg Borough police chief Robert Glenny announced on Monday that the Gettysburg Police will begin a test run of horse-mounted police officers in the borough.

Glenny said some people had asked him about it and he decided to try it. “We’ll test this. This is Gettysburg; it just fits. People seem to love it, especially the kids,” he said.
Glenny said three borough officers have received mounted training and that all other duties will be addressed before the borough put units on horses.
Glenny said no police work will be done during the trial period.
There is no cost to the borough, Glenny said, because the horses will be provided by Gettysburg Horse Tours.
“We have people to clean up after them,” he added.
