León Nicaragua has been Gettysburg’s sister city for thirty years, and to mark the occasion Gettysburg Major Ted Streeter has proclaimed February 13 as “Project Gettysburg/León Day.”
Project Gettysburg-León (PGL) is a partnership between Gettysburg and León that empowers people, communities and organizations to advance sustainable development through capacity-building funds, education and cultural exchange programs.

PGL sponsors many activities in both Gettysburg and León. In Gettysburg, PGL’s annual events include a “Nicaragua Night” fundraising auction in January and a “Salsa on the Square” event in September.
Streeter and Crowner
Streeter made the proclamation to PGL co-presidents Dave Crowner and Karl Mattson at Monday’s Borough Council Meeting.
Council President Jake Schindel thanked Mattson for “everything you’ve done for PGL. It’s a great organization and we appreciate all the people that come to visit us.”
Lawson said PGL had “really made an impact in our local schools.”
