Gettysburg Rallies Past Ursinus in CC Action

After trailing for three quarters, the Gettysburg College (10-1, 6-0 CC) women’s basketball team rallied back with a strong fourth-quarter performance to defeat the Ursinus College (5-6, 4-2 CC) Bears 64-61 in a Centennial Conference showdown on Saturday afternoon inside Bream Gym.

How It Happened…

  • First Quarter
    • Playing in their first game in 14 days, the Bullets rolled out to a 10-2 run, with Cesareo drilling back-to-back three-pointers during the spurt. Marisa Morano knocked down a trey at the 6:48 marker that started an 11-2 run to close out the frame with the one-point advantage, 13-12.
  • Second Quarter
    • Back-to-back lay-ups by Gehrin and classmate Emma Hahner (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) pushed the Bullets back ahead 16-15. A lay-up by Lydia Konstanzer on the next possession gave Ursinus the lead, once again. The Bears out-scored the Bullets 20-13 in the frame and went into intermission with the 33-25 lead.
  • Third Quarter
    • The Bears held the lead throughout the frame, leading by as-much-as 12 points, and making 54.4 percent (6-of-11) from the field. The Bullets battled its way back after reeling a 13-7 run in the last five minutes to come within four (50-46). Gettysburg poured out 21 points to Ursinus’ 17 with Gehrin and Rice scoring six and five points, respectively, to pace the Bullets.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • A lay-up by sophomore Mackenzie Tinner (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock High School North) helped steer the Bullets offensive flow as they opened the final frame with an 11-0 run to lead 57-50. Gettysburg was able to keep Ursinus off the scoreboard until the 3:53 marker. The Bears came within one after out-scoring the Bullets 7-1 with under 1:36 to go. Gehrin made a pair of clutch free throws in the waning seconds to secure the victory. The Bullets shot an outstanding 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the floor in the frame.

By the Numbers

  • Gettysburg finished 23-of-55 (41.8 percent) from the field, while Ursinus made 25-of-57 (43.9 percent) from the field.
  • The Bullets held a slight 34-32 rebounding edge with the Gettysburg bench out-scoring Ursinus’ 20-4.
  • Gettysburg canned 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line and the Bears went 13-of-19 (68.4 percent).
  • Today’s game marked the first time this season that Gettysburg finished with four players reaching double-figure scoring.

Where the Series Stands Now
After the win today, the Bullets hold the slight 30-28 all-time series advantage between the Bears. Gettysburg now has won the last 10 meetings against Ursinus, with four of the five coming by 12 or more points.
