Gettysburg Remembrance Day Weekend, 2019

Gettysburg Remembrance Day ceremonies are happening around town this weekend in a yearly memorial on the anniversary of the 1863 Consecration of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg.

The weekend commemorates President Abraham Lincoln’s delivery of Gettysburg Address.

The original ceremony dedicated 17 acres to bury more than 3,500 fallen Union soldiers.

Many events are to be held over the weekend including

  • Costume balls on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • The annual Remembrance Day Parade on Saturday. The parade begins on LeFever Street and continues down Baltimore Street to Steinwehr Avenue. The parade is sponsored by the Sons of Veterans Reserve. Neighboring Streets will be closed starting at 10:00 a.m.
  • Remembrance Day Illumination on Saturday at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery. The ceremony features the lighting of a luminary candle on each of the 3,512 Civil War soldier’s graves. Throughout the evening, the names of the fallen soldiers will be read in this event sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation.
