The Gettysburg College softball team will host a one-day instructional clinic inside Hauser Field House on Sunday, Jan. 26.
The clinic is open to grades 4-12 and will be divided into three sessions, the first for pitching (9:00-10:30 a.m.), the second for catchers (10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.), and the third for defensive and offensive instruction (12:30-4 p.m.). Participants may choose to take part in as many sessions as they want.
The first session is a pitching clinic from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. inside the Jaeger Center Lobby. Pitchers must provide their own catcher for a portion of this session, and the catcher does not pay for the pitching session. Participants will discover drills for increased leg drive, arm speed, and spin specific pitches. Cost for this session is $25.
Catchers will receive direct instruction from the Bullets coaching staff in the second session beginning at 10:30 a.m. and lasting until noon. The emphasis will be on throwing, transition, footwork, blocking, communication, and foul balls. Registration is at 10 a.m. inside the Jaeger Lobby and catchers are required to bring their own gear. Cost for this session is $25.
The third session is a defensive and offensive clinic beginning at 12:30 p.m. and lasting until 4 p.m. Participants will learn proper offensive and defensive techniques from Gettysburg head coach Annette Hunt-Shepherd and the members of the Bullets’ softball team. Participants will elevate their short game and find new power in their swings while defensively pushing themselves to develop exceptional fundamentals. If the temperature is 32 degrees or above, the older participants will throw outside and outfielders will work on the turf during the defensive sessions, so please dress appropriately. Registration for the third and final session will take place at noon in the Jaeger Lobby. Cost for the defensive and offensive session is $60 and includes a working lunch at noon Participants can bring their own lunch or purchase pizza for $2.00 and drinks for $1.00.
All participants must bring their own equipment, which should include glove, bat, athletic shoes, athletic attire, and water bottle. Catchers must bring their own gear. No refunds will be issued for canceling within 48 hours of the clinics.
