Gettysburg Staple, Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe, Seeks New Ownership

After more than two decades of serving made-to-order meals in the heart of Gettysburg, Scott Hunt, the owner of Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe, is looking to pass the torch as he plans to retire at the season’s end. Located at 61 Steinwehr Ave., the beloved local eatery has been a fixture in the community for 23 years, known for its fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a menu that boasts Boardwalk-style fries, hearty cheese steaks, and succulent hamburgers.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the exception of being closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the cafe offers both indoor and outdoor dining experiences as well as take-out options. Hunt has built a reputation on affordability without compromising quality, offering everything from fresh-squeezed lemonades to old-fashioned candies. The cafe also features a unique selection of beverages including Moxie, sarsaparilla, birch beer, and ginger beer.

Adding to the charm of the cafe are the walls adorned with framed photos and memorabilia autographed by famous actors and musicians, contributing to its warm and inviting atmosphere. During a recent visit, an unexpected hat drop prompted Hunt to share tales of two friendly spirits reputed to haunt the premises, adding a touch of mystery and allure.

As the season draws to a close, Hunt expresses a hope that the new owner will preserve the essence of the cafe. With its prime location and established clientele, Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe presents a ripe opportunity for those looking to own a piece of Gettysburg’s rich history. As Thanksgiving approaches, so does the end of an era for Hunt, who looks forward to retirement and the continuation of his legacy through new hands.
