Gettysburg’s New Year’s Eve Celebration: “Let’s Raise Abe’s Hat and Dance”

As we say goodbye to 2023, Gettysburg’s Lincoln Square will undergo an exciting transformation into a brightly colored, lively dance venue with plenty of activities and chances for those holiday photo ops!

Gettysburg New Year’s Eve Celebration 2022 gained statewide attention when we raised Abe’s Hat for the first time. This year, Chris Thompson, the original designer from Thompson Welding and Custom Fabrication, has redesigned Abe’s Hat, which will once more be raised up over Lincoln Square at the stroke of midnight.

Spirit Sound and Light, a production company out of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Barcrawler Karaoke from Lancaster, will work their magic to turn Lincoln Square into a colorfully lit dance and karaoke party, creating a vibrant atmosphere where the community can come together to celebrate the new year. At midnight, the tradition will continue; Abe’s hat will be raised up over Gettysburg.

Also, on the square for New Year’s Eve will be Brained Escapes, The Human Hamster Wheel, The Enchanted Tea Pot Characters, with many new, and old favorite vendors too. Bantam Roasters is donating hot chocolate and there will be popcorn, balloons, noise makers and things that glow!

Food vendors will be located within walking distance from Lincoln Square. Many of your favorite restaurants will be open for drinks and dinner. Please check with each restaurant for their times and specials.

Please note that parking for this event is at your own discretion. Racehorse Alley Parking Garage provides paid parking, conveniently accessible via N. Stratton Street, only a block away from Lincoln Square. Moreover, all street meters in the area offer free parking after 8 pm for the entirety of the night.

Road closure information can be found at our website www.gettysburgalive.com.

Organizing free community events like this one incurs substantial expenses for non-profit organizations. These events heavily rely on the support of individuals and businesses through donations. A simple $5 donation from each participant through www.gettysburgalive.com would collectively cover the entire cost of the event, ensuring these events continue.

Gettysburg Alive and Gettysburg Pride would like to thank Wellspan Health, Spirit Sound & Light LLC, Destination Gettysburg, UPMC, The Borough of Gettysburg, The Gettysburg Hotel, and all our sponsors for their support of The Gettysburg New Year’s Eve Celebration. It is an understatement to say, these events wouldn’t happen without their significant financial contributions.
