The Adams County Arts Council will open its most anticipated show of the year on Saturday, June 14, with the launch of the 21st Annual Juried Art Exhibition—an event that will also spotlight emerging talent and honor the legacy of three influential local artists.
This year’s exhibition, sponsored by Scott & Co. Fine Jewelers, will debut at a new location: the historic Wolf House at the United Lutheran Seminary. The opening reception begins at 5 p.m., with the awards ceremony set for 6 p.m. A celebratory “Toast the Artists” reception will follow across the street in Valentine Hall.

The juried show, which runs through June 28, features 48 works selected from more than 300 submissions by 120 artists from along the East Coast. Juror Ann Tarantino, an artist known for her interest in spatial relationships, curated the show—making her a fitting match for the venue’s 19th-century Queen Anne-style architecture.
In addition to the juried awards, the evening will honor three student artists with special recognitions. The Nanette Hatzes Memorial Award will be presented to Meghan Schultz by Hatzes’ husband, Max Bramel. The Mel Shull Memorial Award will go to Salem Palmer, presented by Lee Baer Shull. Savannah Schneider will receive the Stu Kravits Emerging Artist Award, given by Kravits himself.
The awards, originally announced at Gettysburg Area High School’s Dollars for Scholars program, will be formally recognized again at the exhibition opening.
This is the second year for the Hatzes and Shull awards and the third for the Kravits Award, which was established by his children in gratitude for his support of their artistic pursuits.
The Juried Art Exhibition and its surrounding celebrations are supported by numerous community sponsors, including Platinum Sponsor Scott & Co. Fine Jewelers, Gold Sponsors Ream Roofing and WellSpan Health, and Bronze Sponsors Celebrate Gettysburg Magazine, Members1st, and the Land Conservancy of Adams County. Artist-level sponsors include Harvest Investments and Blick Art Supplies.
Tickets for the “Toast the Artists” celebration are available through the Adams County Arts Council.
