As of June 17, Pennsylvanians can opt for the state’s newly unveiled “Let Freedom Ring” license plate, featuring a red-white-and-blue color scheme and an image of the Liberty Bell. The phrase “Let Freedom Ring” appears boldly across the bottom in red.
Governor Josh Shapiro marked the official release with a social media announcement, joined by a cast of familiar faces: mascots from across Pennsylvania’s sports teams, including Gritty, Swoop, and the Philly Phanatic. The reveal coincided with National Mascot Day.
The design mirrors the state’s updated highway welcome signs, introduced in 2024 as part of the “Great American Getaway” tourism initiative. The updated branding is timed to boost awareness ahead of major events in 2026, including the United States’ 250th anniversary, the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and the NFL Draft, all of which will prominently feature Pennsylvania.
So far, over 12,000 of the new plates have already been issued.
To get one, drivers can visit pa.gov/licenseplate. The standard switch costs $13, with additional charges for custom plates or added services. There’s no requirement to make the change — the new plate is entirely optional..
