Healthy Adams Walk shifts location this week

This week’s Adams County Physical Fitness Task Force community walk will move to a new location because of winter weather concerns.

Organizers announced that the Wednesday, Feb. 25 walk will now take place at the Outlets of Gettysburg, 1863 Gettysburg Village Drive. Participants will meet at 1 p.m. in the pavilion in the center of the shopping complex.

Depending on weather conditions, walkers can choose between a one- or two-mile route. The one-mile option is mostly flat and largely covered, offering protection from wind or precipitation. Those opting for the full two miles should be prepared for some hills and stretches without overhead coverage.

The weekly walks are part of the ongoing efforts of the Adams County Physical Fitness Task Force, a program of Healthy Adams County that promotes regular physical activity and community engagement. The free walks are open to residents of all ages and fitness levels and are designed to encourage healthy habits year-round, even during colder months.

Throughout the winter, organizers often select routes that provide safer footing and shelter from the elements, including indoor or partially covered venues. In warmer seasons, the group frequents local parks, trails and historic sites across the county.

The task force’s walking initiative has grown steadily in recent years, drawing a core group of regular participants while welcoming newcomers looking for a low-cost, social way to stay active. Walk leaders typically set a comfortable pace, allowing for conversation and flexibility based on participants’ abilities.

Organizers encourage attendees to dress appropriately for the weather and to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for gathering before the 1 p.m. start. No registration is required.

For updates on future walks and other wellness initiatives, residents can follow Healthy Adams County’s community announcements and social media channels.
