The Healthy Kids Running Series, a national community-based nonprofit promoting active lifestyles for children, will return to Gettysburg this April with a five-week spring race season at Gettysburg Rec Park.
The series is open to boys and girls ages 2 to 14 and will take place for five consecutive Sundays at 3 p.m. on April 19 and 26, followed by May 3, 10 and 17. Each week features age-appropriate races designed to encourage fitness, confidence and fun in a supportive community setting.
Organizers are also working to expand participation in the program’s Challenger Division, an adaptive 75-yard race created for children with disabilities and/or special needs. The division is designed to welcome intellectually and physically disabled athletes and provide them with the opportunity to experience the benefits of youth running in an inclusive environment.
Parents, siblings and volunteers are able to run alongside Challenger participants or greet them at the finish line, helping ensure every child has a positive race-day experience. Local families who may benefit from the Challenger Division are encouraged to learn more and consider registering.
Registration for the Gettysburg Healthy Kids Running Series is available online at:

As the season approaches, organizers are also seeking community volunteers to help support the weekly events. Volunteers are needed to assist with pre-race stretching, registration and check-in, and course marshaling to help keep runners safe and races running smoothly.
Those interested in lending a hand, becoming a sponsor, or helping spread the word — particularly about the Challenger Division — are encouraged to contact race director Nicole Mallory at gettysburgpa@healthykidsrs.org or by phone at 717-357-5019.
