Gettysburg Combined Area Resources for Emergency Shelter (CARES) hosted a volunteer dinner at the Youth House in Gettysburg yesterday for volunteers, staff, and board members. It connected dedicated volunteers for an evening of appreciation and camaraderie.
The gathering served both as a heartfelt thank-you for their ongoing commitment to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and as an opportunity to share updates, strengthen relationships, and discuss future efforts for the fall.
Sausage Gnocchi, Chicken Peasant, Ham Vegetable, and Pasta Fagioli soups were served in addition to salads, breads, and desserts.
Volunteer Sarah Stokely gave welcoming remarks to the group. Michael Cooper-White provided a prayer before the meal. Sharing a meal together allowed volunteers and Board Members to meet each other and mingle.
After eating, Director Debi Little provided some information about success stories. Two families have found housing and another former guest is now gainfully employed.
Those interested in making a difference in the community are encouraged to get involved. In addition to serving as greeters to guests as overnight shift helpers, volunteers are needed for evening devotion and breakfast preparation. Even just volunteering a few hours once a month is helpful to this cold weather shelter.
