Heritage Festivalgoers To Form Peace Sign

Something special will happen at this year’s Heritage Festival, which falls on International Peace Day, Sept. 21.

Exactly at noon, as the festival opens, everyone present will be invited to form a peace sign to be memorialized in a drone photo. A full afternoon of music and dance, ethnic food, international displays, children’s activities, and craft demonstrations will follow. Building a peaceful community is the theme of the 34th annual event, scheduled from noon until 4 p.m. at the Gettysburg Recreation Park.

Taking the stage at 12:15 p.m. will be the roots-music duo Christine and the Road King. At 1:15 p.m., the Kozak Ukrainian Dancers will share their distinctive culture, followed by Namaste, an eclectic world-music band. The Experience Band from Washington, D.C., will round out the afternoon entertainment. A children’s bicycle parade will start at 12:30 p.m., while a special children’s activities area will feature hands-on crafts highlighting owls and barns, and families may enjoy getting their “passports” stamped at various international displays.

Ethnic food is always a festival highlight, and this year, eleven food vendors will share cuisine from a variety of cultures. Craft demonstrators will be on hand to showcase hands-on heritage work, and a host of non-profit organizations will offer insight into their community activities.
