Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to lace up their sneakers for the annual Highmark Wholecare Labor Day Free 5K, set for Monday, Sept. 1, at 8 a.m. at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel’s Gateway Complex, 95 Presidential Circle.
Hosted by Healthy Adams County’s Physical Fitness Task Force, the family-friendly event is free to enter and even offers professional chip timing for all participants, a feature not common to many fee-required 5K runs.
Race bibs and water will also be provided, and children under 13 will receive a medal at the finish line.
Participants can register online in advance at runsignup.com/Race/PA/Gettysburg/LaborDayFree5K or on race day starting at 7 a.m. Organizers encourage early registration, as race day sign-ups are limited. All runners must sign a waiver, and those under 18 need a parent or guardian’s signature. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult during the race.
The event, which winds through the scenic Gettysburg area, welcomes both competitive runners and those looking to enjoy a relaxed walk or jog with friends and family. Its focus on accessibility and community spirit makes it a popular choice for local residents and visitors alike.
In addition to promoting fitness, the Labor Day Free 5K is supported by several local sponsors, including Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel, Gettysburg Beer Runners, Highmark Wholecare, Tiger Entertainment, and Hunterstown Power Generation, with assistance from the Adams County Office of Planning and Development.
