The Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center will host its second annual Summer Symposium: History Meets Healthcare on August 9, offering a full day of insight into how medical history continues to inform modern healthcare.
Held at United Lutheran Seminary, the symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features an impressive lineup of speakers with backgrounds in both medicine and history. Through presentations that bridge the past and present, attendees will explore topics ranging from battlefield medicine and infectious diseases to public health reform and the evolution of mental health care.
Among the featured speakers are Fran Feyock, a Licensed Battlefield Guide and retired nurse anesthetist; Col. Thomas Frank, M.D., a retired U.S. Army Medical Corps surgeon; and Dr. Jon Willen, a retired infectious disease physician. Also speaking are Jackie Greer, a nurse and women’s relief living historian; Dr. Stephen Goldman, a psychiatrist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; and Codie Eash, Director of Education and Interpretation at the Seminary Ridge Museum.
Organizers say the event is designed to offer unique perspectives from professionals who have lived the history they now teach. Full presentation topics and titles will be announced soon.
Both in-person and virtual attendance options are available, and registration is required. Proceeds will benefit the Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center’s ongoing educational initiatives.

Read the piece about Gov. Shapiro’s investment in agricultural infrastructure. This is amazing for Pennsylvania and Adams County. I’m so pleased we have a governor who plans and implements real support for farmers.
