South Central Community Action Programs Inc. (SCCAP) has received significant financial support for its @Home in Adams County initiative, aimed at addressing the county’s housing and economic development challenges. The @Home initiative secured a $40,000 WellSpan Inspire Grant from WellSpan Health and an additional $25,000 grant from the Adams County Community Foundation.
These funds will bolster efforts to coordinate with local municipalities and community partners, focusing on smart growth and thoughtful development to ensure housing opportunities align with local wages. The initiative is pivotal in addressing the growing gap between the cost of living and wages in Adams County, where a housing shortage, economic hurdles, and demographic shifts threaten local stability.

SCCAP’s CEO, Megan Shreve, emphasized the importance of community collaboration in preserving Adams County’s historical and agricultural heritage while addressing urgent economic and housing needs. @Home’s work with Novak Strategic Advisors will include understanding community perspectives on housing, transportation, and economic development, aiming to support balanced growth and enhance local well-being.
These grants will support @Home’s mission to provide affordable living solutions in Adams County, a crucial effort as the area faces a significant shortage of housing for mid-wage earners and seniors on fixed incomes. The initiative aims to create a sustainable future where residents can afford to live and work, contributing to the county’s overall prosperity and preserving its valued heritage.
All of these issues of shortages, hurdles and shifts are equally valid and have a sense of urgency. I wonder about the decision to raze the 3 buildings at the seminary, instead of turning them in to much needed affordable housing units?
