The Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice (ICPJ) seeks to promote respectful dialogue on peace, social justice and equity, multiculturalism, and environmental sustainability by hosting events and encouraging individuals and organizations to work together nonviolently to enrich our community. As part of this mission, each year we recognize several members of our community who have embraced the ideals of our organization and made contributions towards improving Adams County. We invite anyone to help make nominations for the following 2026 Peacemaker Awards:
The Peacemaker of the Year Award is given to recognize an individual or group who have made a significant achievement in the past year. Recent recipients include Blessing Shahid for work including the establishment of the Juneteenth Festival, the Gettysburg Green Gathering for their work in establishing a glass recycling program, the Refugee Resettlement Partnership of Gettysburg, and the Pathways to Racial Justice Group for their dedication to our community.
The Lifetime of Peacemaking Award is given to a local resident who, over a long term, has made significant contributions to peace, justice, or environmental sustainability, either locally or on a broader scale. Recent recipients include Nancy Lilley, Amelia Contreras, Peter Boving, and Janet Morgan Riggs.
When appropriate, we have also recognized contributions to our community made by members of our community under 18 years of age with the Youth Peacemaker Award.
If you have someone in mind that you think is deserving of such an award, please nominate them by sending a description of the reasons to us at icpj@icpj-gettysburg.org by March 1st. Nominations can also be sent to ICPJ by mail at PO Box 3134, Gettysburg PA 17325.
