Join the Winter Reading Challenge

by Sara Edmiston

Looking for something to do as the days and nights grow colder this winter?  Check out the Adams County library’s Winter Reading Challenge, open to all ages throughout the winter months.

The Winter Reading Challenge encourages readers of all ages to record how much they read for a chance to win prizes.  The challenge runs from Friday, December 20, through Saturday, February 15.  Pre-registration opens on Friday, December 13.

The Winter Reading Challenge runs through Beanstack, the same program that the library uses for SummerQuest.  Log in with an existing account from previous challenges, or create a new account – the choice is yours.  Find Beanstack on our website.  Just visit www.adamslibrary.org and click the link under Reading Programs on the main page.

For adults, the challenge is similar to prior years’ Winter Reading Challenges – record reading 5 books and earn a chance to win the grand prize. Record reading a total of 15 books and earn a second chance at the grand prize. For kids and teens, the challenge is to read 400 minutes.

Need a book recommendation?  Check out the list of titles that our book clubs have been reading lately, pick up the latest copy of the Book Page available at your library, or simply ask a staff member what they’ve been reading lately.

Speaking of Book Clubs, the library system has a variety of clubs that meet either virtually or at each branch of the library.  From genre-specific, like the Science Fiction Book Club, which meets at the Gettysburg Library on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30, and the Nonfiction Book Club, which meets at the Schmucker House at the Lutheran Seminary every other month on the third Tuesday at 1 pm to the Shelf Indulgence Book Club that meets at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library on the third Thursday of each month at 1 pm, there should be no problem finding a club that works for you.

For information on any of the exciting events taking place this winter, be sure to pick up the latest three-month calendar at any Adams County Library location or view an electronic copy on the Adams County Library System website.
