That most wonderful time of year – summer – is upon us and the focus shifts to spending as much time as possible outdoors. We are fortunate there are free outdoor arts events taking place in Gettysburg all summer. So find your lawn chairs and blankets, pack a picnic, and get ready to enjoy yourself!
Coming our way is the 26th Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, the annual Arts Council Juried Arts Exhibition, the 15th HGAC Barn Art Show, performances on the Oasis Stage downtown, Summer Classic Movies, and the return of outdoor concerts at the rec park, to name a few. Invite a friend and go!

Start your summer with a poetry reading in downtown Gettysburg with Shaheen Dil, a longtime member of the Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange. Poet Dil, who hails from Bangladesh and resides in Pittsburgh, has new work forthcoming in Uppagus, The Atlanta Review, and the anthology A Critique of the Gods. She has given numerous poetry readings in the U.S., Germany, and Bangladesh. Open mic begins at 7. Enjoy a lively evening with some coffee and a delicious pastry or sandwich.

Bill Serfass conducts this talented group of community singers in their spring concert, accompanied on piano by the esteemed Sharon Hedges. “Reunion with Love” is the theme and the Chorus will sing music that features a variety of styles and composers. These concerts are free with a freewill donation being accepted at intermission. Be uplifted and entertained by hearing your friends and neighbors sing.

Majestic Theater
Every Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm from June 7 through August 23, the Majestic Theater presents their Summer Classic Movie Series on the Big Screen in the Main Theater. The series begins on June 7 with Some Like It Hot, filmed in 1959, starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe in a gender-bender farce. Dress as Marilyn Monroe for a free small popcorn! Tickets are $8.

26th Gettysburg Brass Band Festival
Since 1998, Gettysburg has been home to this annual free event, held outdoors at the United Lutheran Seminary Pavilion. Bring your lawn chair and get ready for lots of great music! The Lions Club will provide a delicious lunch for sale on the grounds both Saturday and Sunday.

David Harewood (Homeland) and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) star as feuding political rivals in this drama. Set in 1968 America, William F. Christian McBride is an eight-time Grammy award-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader as well as the Artistic Director for several renowned Jazz Festivals and museums. GARA – Rec Park Amphitheater
After a long hiatus, GARA presents a free Summer Concert Series on Sunday evenings from June 25 through August 13 at the Rec Park Amphitheater. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a fun summer concert in the great outdoors! Harrisburg-based rock band Vertigo Vultures launches the series. They are a Classic and Southern hard rock outfit led by vocalist Kyle Schnitzer, guitarist Steve Austin and John Fischer, Kyle Hetzel on drums and Sam Sweigert, bass.

Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor.
Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
