June 2025 Cultural Arts Calendar        

Thanks to the contribution of Gail Jones, Gettysburg Connection is pleased to present you with the June 2025 cultural arts calendar. There is certainly a lot to see and do.

June 1 – 8 at 2 and 7:30 pm – The Marvelous Wonderettes @ Totem Pole Playhouse

This smash Off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where we meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy:  four gals with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts!  Featuring over 30 classic 50’s and 60’s hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane! June 2 at 12 and 7 pm – Exhibition on Screen Encore: Michelangelo @ Majestic Theater 

Spanning his 88 years, Michelangelo: Love and Death takes us on a cinematic journey through the print and drawing rooms of Europe through the great chapels and museums of Florence, Rome, and the Vatican to seek out a deeper understanding of this legendary figure’s tempestuous life, his relationship with his contemporaries and his incredible legacy.  Tickets are $18 and $10 for students age 25 or younger.    www.gettysburgmajestic.org

June 4 – June 8 – Gettysburg Brass Band Festival @ United Lutheran Seminary/Around Town

Brass bands from all over the United States come to perform several days of wonderful brass music at the ULS outdoor pavilion and around town. June 4 at 7:30 pm – Summer Classic Movies – “The Third Man”@ Majestic Theater                             

Every Wednesday evening at 7:30 this summer, the Majestic Theater presents their Summer Classic Movies Series on the Big Screen in the Main Theater.  Join your friends and neighbors to see the best vintage films with a bag of fresh popcorn. This film is classic film noir from 1949, set in post-war Vienna and starring Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles. Tickets are $9.   www.gettysburgmajestic.org

June 5 – July 19 – Visualizing the Civil War @ Schmucker Art Gallery                                  

Curated by Gettysburg College students Danielle Russell ‘25 and Jake Neff ‘27, this art show features Civil War related visual culture from the 1860s through the 1938 75th Reunion at Gettysburg. The art is drawn primarily from Gettysburg Special Collections and College Archives. Admission is free and the Gallery is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm.  www.gettysburg.edu/gallery

June 6 at 7:00 pm – Poetry First Friday @ Ragged Edge Coffeehouse                                                  

 Join fellow poetry lovers for an Open Mic at 7 pm followed by readings from poets Bert Barnett, Judy Young, and Mike Reid.  Grab some baked goods and a beverage on your way upstairs.  Free. www.theraggededgecoffeehouse.com

June 6 – 22 – Pippin, A Musical @ Gettysburg Community Theatre                                         

Pippin is the story of one young man’s journey to be extraordinary, with an unforgettable score written by musical theater giant Stephen Swartz. Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it at school, in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power but finds that it lies elsewhere. Tickets are $25 and often sell out. June 7 at 8:00 pm – Suzanne Vega – Flying With Angels @ Majestic Theater                     

Suzanne Vega will perform a career-spanning show including favorites like Tom’s Diner, Luka, and many more plus new materiel from her forthcoming album Flying With Angels (May 2025).  Tickets are $65/$55/$45 and VIP available.  www.gettysburgmajestic.org

June 7 and 8 at 3:00 pm – Gettysburg Civic Chorus @ Gettysburg Area Middle School            

Join your friends and neighbors to hear the Gettysburg Civic Chorus under the direction of Bill Serfass as they entertain with beautiful choral music for the spring concert, “Love Will Keep Us Together. June 10 at 2 and 7:30 pm – The Spouse Whisperer @ Totem Pole Playhouse                          

Come to Totem Pole for their new series of “Tucked Away Tuesdays” featuring a variety of talent. Come spend an afternoon or evening with hilarious comedian Mark Cordes as you examine the ups and downs of dating, relationships, marriage, divorce, and all other aspects of this crazy thing we call life. This is one show that will have you laughing as Mark educates the crowd on the dos and don’ts of relationships.  Tickets are $45. www.totempoleplayhouse.org

June 11 at 7:30 pm – Summer Classic Movies – “The Great Outdoors” @ Majestic Theater 

Actors Dan Akroyd and John Candy demonstrate how funny it can be when family vacations go wrong in this 1988 family comedy. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors to enjoy a movie classic on the silver screen. June 13 – 15 – Barn Art Show and Sale @ G.A.R. Hall, 53 East Middle Street                             

Delve into a world of beautiful local art with proceeds benefitting the Barn Preservation Project and Grant Program.  Opening Night Reception is June 13 from 6 – 8 pm, followed by browsing on Saturday from 10 am until 6 pm and Sunday from noon until 4 pm. June 14 – 28 – ACAC Juried Art Exhibition @ Wolf House at United Lutheran Seminary          

This premiere show not only features work from Adams County and south-central Pennsylvania’s best artists, but also draws entries from across the United States. Exhibit and awards ceremony are free and open to the public. The Opening Reception is at 5 pm on June 14, followed by the Awards at 6 pm.  Exhibit hours are  Monday-Thursday 10 am -4 pm, Friday 12 – 6 pm, and Saturday /Sunday (after June 14)  10 am -2 pm.  www.adamsarts.org

June 18 at 7:30 pm – Summer Classic Movies – “Strangers on a Train” @ Majestic Theater

In this 1951 psychological thriller by Alfred Hitchcock, a psychopath tries to recruit a tennis player to collaborate on the perfect crime.  Bring your friends, family, and neighbors to enjoy a movie classic together on the silver screen. June 20 – July 6 – 9 to 5: The Musical @ Totem Pole Playhouse                                                     

Based on the hit 1980 film, Dolly Parton herself provides the music and lyrics for this outrageously funny workplace revenge comedy set in the Rolodex era. Head out to Totem Pole to celebrate their 75th season! Rated PG -13. Tickets are $60.   www.TotemPolePlayhouse.org

June 21 at 6:45 pm – “Songs and Stories of a Civil War Hospital” @ Christ Lutheran Church 

This program is a special “Juneteenth Commemoration”, featuring songs and stories related to that subject. Songs begin on the front steps of the church at 6:45 and the program moves into the sanctuary at 7 pm.  Admission is free.  www.christgettysburg.org

June 21 at 8 pm – Cinema Under the Stars    @ Schmucker House, United Lutheran Seminary     

A free, outdoor summer program created to bring iconic and thought-provoking classic films to Adams County.  The season begins with “12 Angry Men”, a 1957 American legal drama featuring Henry Fonda that tells the story of a jury of twelve men and is a critique of the American jury system during the McCarthy era.  There will be live music with Nick Mich and C.J.’s Takeout and Late Night Bites, as well as Bantam food truck and drink trucks. June 22 at 5:00 pm – Juneteenth Concert featuring Antoinette Montague @ Majestic Theater

Gettysburg’s Juneteenth culminates with an event featuring local performers and guest artists for a fun and free evening!  The jazz and blues artist, Antoinette Montague doesn’t perform concerts, she creates experiences. Based in Newark, NJ, Montague’s work as an artist, entertainer, and educator have earned her accolades throughout the New York Metro area and beyond. She will be joined by a band of stellar musicians and a charismatic tap dancer, AC Lincoln.  This is a FREE event, but tickets are required and you may get them at the Box Office. www.gettysburgmajestic.org

June 25 at 7:30 pm – Summer Classic Movies – “Sister Act” @ Majestic Theater

This hilarious 1992 musical stars Whoopi Goldberg as a nightclub singer who finds herself entering a convent while hiding from the mob. Vespers are traded for Motown in this entertaining and fun film. Bring your friends, grab some popcorn, and enjoy a classic movie on the big screen in air conditioned comfort. Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor.

Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
