Katherine “Kathie” Owens Shelleman, 61, of Biglerville, died Oct. 1, 2026, at home, surrounded by family, after a 12-year battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 17, 1964, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Clark and Sarah “Sally” Talmadge Owens.
Shelleman worked as a bartender at several area businesses, primarily at the Gettysburg American Legion. Her family remembered her quick wit and love of jokes. She also enjoyed spring mushroom hunting, beach trips, gardening, and collecting antiques and trinkets, and especially valued time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, John R. Shelleman Sr.; daughters Amanda Reed of Biglerville and Cassie Shelleman of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; brother Clark Owens Jr. of New Oxford; and sisters Susan Miller of Port Deposit, Maryland, and Theresa Augustyniak of York. She was preceded in death by her son, John R. Shelleman Jr.
A viewing is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. Her funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home.
