Kathleen Pratt announces GASD school board candidacy

Kathleen Pratt has announced her candidacy for the Gettysburg Area School District Board of Directors. Pratt previously served on the board from 2017 to 2021. Her voting record evidences a common-sense approach to taxation, expanding opportunities for students, and respecting the expertise of teachers.

Pratt spoke out and voted against increasing taxes when our community faced the financial and emotional pressures of the pandemic; she also enthusiastically voted to approve the women’s wrestling program.

Her voting record reflects respect for teachers, including their choice of textbooks.

Pratt’s interest in returning comes when public schools face unprecedented challenges as they adapt to fast-moving public education reform at the U.S. Department of Education.

Pratt has experience guiding the district through unchartered territory, having served during the pandemic years.  Pratt, who holds an M.B.A., knows her experience as a business professional and in higher education make her uniquely qualified to be part of the solution with a focus on maintaining opportunities for students, excellence in our public schools, and sensitivity to the needs of our taxpayers.

Pratt and her husband Marc have happily called Gettysburg home for 26 years.  Their children, Lucy and Alec, are proud Gettysburg Area High School graduates.  She has actively sought opportunities to serve the Gettysburg community in various capacities, ranging from T-Ball coach, Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, and more.  She currently serves as a Trustee for the Adams County Library System.

Pratt is a business studies Lecturer at McDaniel College where she teaches courses including Ethics in Business.  Prior to joining McDaniel, she was a Professor of Management and Marketing at the Harrisburg Area Community College in Gettysburg, she ran a successful consulting practice, and worked at the national and regional levels as a marketer.
