Labor Day weekend forecast: cool and comfortable

Central and northeast Pennsylvania can expect a nearly ideal Labor Day weekend, with comfortable temperatures, low humidity, and little threat of rain—perfect for outdoor plans from cookouts to football kickoffs.

A stalled frontal boundary will keep the South and parts of the Plains unsettled through much of the holiday stretch. Still, the eastern U.S., including Pennsylvania, will enjoy what meteorologists are calling a “false fall.” Highs will run 10 to 15 degrees below average, with daytime temperatures staying in the 70s across much of the state. Nights will be cool and crisp, dipping into the 50s in many areas.

Saturday looks especially pleasant. Across central counties, including Adams, Cumberland, and Dauphin, skies are expected to remain mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-70s. Northeastern areas, including the Poconos and the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre region, can expect similar conditions, making it a great day for hiking, camping, or late-summer festivals.

Sunday continues the trend, with refreshing air and dry skies holding steady. Highs will once again top out in the 70s, with humidity staying low. The cooler air will be welcome for those headed to local football games or planning long weekend travel.

By Labor Day, conditions are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the Keystone State. While the South and Gulf Coast will still experience scattered showers, Pennsylvania will remain dry, providing residents with a perfect window for barbecues, parades, and time outdoors before the September warmth returns.

While the West will bake in well-above-average heat, and flash flooding will be a concern across the saturated South, the Northeast remains largely free of weather hazards. That means drivers heading home from long weekend trips in Pennsylvania and neighboring states are unlikely to face weather-related travel delays.

For central Pennsylvania, this Labor Day weekend will deliver some of the most comfortable weather of the season. It’s a chance to enjoy the crisp, early-autumn feel—before summer warmth makes a comeback.
