Land Conservancy of Adams County meets to recognize preservation-minded landowners

On Thursday, March 12, the Land Conservancy of Adams County will gather for its annual dinner to vote on its board of directors and honor local landowners who completed conservation easements in 2019. The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend; simply R.S.V.P. at PreserveAdams.org by Feb. 28.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on a variety of unique items at the Land

Conservancy’s silent auction, which in turn provides vital support to the organization. Items to look for this year include a helicopter tour of Adams County, a four-course farm-to-table dinner in your home, a learn-to-fly-fish package, a week-long beach condo rental, tickets to a Phillies game, award-winning baked goods, and much more.

In 2019 the Land Conservancy of Adams County worked with local landowners to preserve 665 acres of Adams County farmland, woodland, open spaces, and freshwater streams. In the 25 years since its founding in 1995, the conservancy has partnered with local landowners to preserve more than 11,500 acres in the county.

These landowners worked with the Land Conservancy to protect their land by crafting conservation easements, which are voluntary legal agreements attached to the property deed that spell out the kind and amount of development the landowner wishes to allow on his or her property now and in the future.

For the past several years, the Adams County Commissioners have proclaimed the period between the Land Conservancy’s Annual Dinner and its Annual Art Auction (this year to be held on Sunday, April 26) as Land Conservancy Month.

Events marking Land Conservancy Month this year include a pre-Art Auction artists’ reception on First Friday, April 3, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Adams County Arts Council, 125 South Washington St., Gettysburg. The reception will showcase a wide variety of original art created by local and regional artists and donated to the Land Conservancy’s Annual Art Auction, which will be held—also at the Adams County Arts Council—from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

The Land Conservancy of Adams County is an accredited, member-supported nonprofit land trust that works to preserve the rural lands and character of Adams County.
