Land Conservancy to Hold “Socially Distant” Summer Picnic

The Land Conservancy of Adams County will celebrate its 25th anniversary of working to preserve Adams County’s rural lands and character with a “socially distant” summer picnic set for Sunday, August 16 at the Adams County Agricultural and Natural Resources Building, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg.

Masks will be required, and guests will be expected to follow CDC recommendations for social distancing.

To facilitate distancing, the conservancy will forego its traditional potluck meal and instead offer a gourmet boxed meal for a donation of $10 per person. Attendees are asked to order their meal by August 10 by visiting PreserveAdams.org, emailing LCAC@adamscounty.us, or calling the Land Conservancy office at (717) 334-2828.

Other than the meal donation, this is a free event, and participants need not be a Land Conservancy member to attend. This is an especially great event for anyone hoping to hear more about what the Land Conservancy does, or how they might join in the conservancy’s mission of preserving the county’s farmlands, natural wildlife habitats, recreational areas, scenic views, and all the special places that make Adams County such a great place to live.

The Land Conservancy of Adams County is an accredited 501(c)(3) member-supported organization dedicated to preserving the rural lands and character of Adams County. Since its founding in 1995, the Land Conservancy of Adams County has partnered with more than 100 county landowners to preserve more than 11,800 acres of local, woodland, meadows, pastures, and streams. This preserved land is valuable to the local economy in terms of agricultural production and tourism, but also to residents’ quality of life as a source of fresh food, as a means of keeping our air and water clean, and as a habitat for local wildlife.
