Dear Residents of Gettysburg
During the Primary campaign for Mayor of Gettysburg, I said I would forego the $5,000 salary if I were elected Mayor. I fully intended to keep that commitment. Sadly, my husband, Eric, died during the general election campaign. This greatly impacted my financial situation, so I have had to rethink taking the mayor salary.
I am also finding that there will be expenses incurred as mayor that will be my responsibility. The job of mayor is enjoyable and rewarding, and I hope that you will understand that due to the unforeseeable change in my life, I need to take the mayor salary. I remain committed to serving all the residents of Gettysburg to the best of my ability, and am issuing this statement in the interest of transparency.

Rita C. Frealing, Mayor
Rita Frealing is the mayor of Gettysburg.
Taking the salary is completely understandable. Considering all the effort that goes into being the mayor, the salary is a very small price to pay. Good luck Mayor Frealing.
