Lincoln Cemetery to Host Annual Memorial Day Program

The Lincoln Cemetery Project Association invites the public to attend its annual Memorial Day Program on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, located at the corner of Lincoln Lane and Long Lane in Gettysburg.

The event, traditionally held the day before the official Memorial Day holiday, is scheduled to complement the programs at Gettysburg National Military Park (GNMP), allowing residents and visitors to attend both.

This year’s program will feature remarks by Kristina “Kris” Heister, Superintendent of GNMP and the Eisenhower National Historic Site. Heister has led both sites since November 2023, following four years as Deputy Superintendent. Her 33-year career with the National Park Service has spanned parks across the country, with a special focus on historical sites. She also brings a personal connection to Gettysburg—her family tree includes two ancestors who fought in the battle.

Other participants in the program include Andrew Dalton, Pastor Rick Smith, Gettysburg Mayor Rita Frealing, Linda Golden, Yvonne Myers, and Tony Hill, who will lead the Allied Veterans/Honor Guard in a memorial volley. Music will be provided by Jack Tobey, who will perform “The Vacant Chair” during the traditional strewing of flowers on soldiers’ graves and later sing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Alisha Sanders will also take part, and Professor Scott Hancock will offer closing remarks.

Attendees can park at the Gettysburg Rec Park (545 Long Lane) or at the PNC Bank lot (245 Breckenridge Street), both within walking distance of the cemetery. Seating will be available, and programs will be distributed on arrival.

The Lincoln Cemetery Project Association encourages all community members and visitors to take part in this meaningful tribute to those who gave their lives in service to the nation.
