Littlestown falls to Lancaster Mennonite in Division Championship

#7 Lancaster Mennonite secured a decisive 4-1 victory over #10 Littlestown in the District III Class 2A Boys Soccer Championships yesterday. The match, played at Lancaster Mennonite’s home ground, showcased both teams’ efforts, with the home team dominating the shots on goal.

The Blazers opened the scoring with a penalty kick by David Lapp at the 31:21 mark in the first half. Littlestown soon answered back with Carter Owings netting a goal, assisted by Matthew Denault and Leo Guzman, at 17:06. The half concluded with a 1-1 tie.

The second half was dominated by Lancaster Mennonite. Jesse Longenecker found the back of the net at 21:24. Santiago Lopez, assisted by Longenecker, added another at 9:06. Wrapping up the victory, Myles Halvorson scored the final goal with a penalty kick in the last 30 seconds of the match.

Statistically, the Blazers dominated with 28 shots, 17 of them on goal, compared to the Thunderbolt’s 7 shots with 3 on target. Corner kicks also tilted in favor of Lancaster Mennonite, 4 to 1.

Goalkeepers from both sides played significant roles. Christopher Meakin of Littlestown made 13 saves, while Adam Nolt of Lancaster Mennonite had 2.

Reflecting on the game, Littlestown’s Head Coach Brett Powell said, “This was Littlestown’s 3rd district appearance in our history and 3rd year in a row. Lancaster Mennonite was the better team, but the result was harsh. We pushed for a goal in the final 10 minutes and gave up 2, and 2 of their goals were PKs.”

Littlestown concludes the season with a record of 9-7-2.
