The second annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day event was hosted by the Littlestown Area School District on Wednesday. The event gave K-6 girls the opportunity to learn about the different sports and opportunities available at Littlestown Middle and High School.
The event is hosted by the Littlestown Area School District to introduce girls to the athletic opportunities available at Littlestown Middle and High School. The event is free for all girls, and it will last for an hour and a half. The girls will be rotating through stations that introduce each sport Littlestown offers for girls, including soccer, field hockey, tennis, basketball, track and field, cheerleading, softball and volleyball.
The stations are run by student-athletes. This is a way for the girls to have mentors and look up to the older girls who are playing. Littlestown High School athletic director Shellee Young said that she hopes the event will inspire the girls to continue playing sports. She says that sports have helped her learn valuable life skills such as time management, sportsmanship, and leadership.
The event is part of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day program which is dedicated to empowering girls and enabling them to reach their full potential. The program is designed to create opportunities for girls to participate in sports and develop their skills, leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills.
