The Littlestown Area School District Board of Directors met on Monday, focusing on student achievements, academic progress, and district initiatives.
The meeting was livestreamed and shared on the district Facebook page.
High school representatives reported strong student involvement in clubs and athletics. The field hockey and volleyball teams are both competing in the District III tournaments, while students have raised more than $4,000 this fall for pediatric cancer research. Upcoming events include “Trunk or Treat” on tomorrow, and a Veterans Day assembly on November 8. Middle school students are celebrating spirit week and conducting fundraisers tied to the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports( PBIS) program.
Leaders from all three buildings presented updates on instruction and assessment. High School Principal Nathan Becker highlighted data-driven teaching strategies and preparation for upcoming Keystone Exams. Middle School administrators described how teachers use growth data through the Pennsylvania Value-Added Assessment System to better tailor instruction to individual student needs. At the elementary level, the “Pumpkin Paces” fundraiser raised over $20,000 for field trips and learning activities, and new book donations were announced to enhance classroom libraries.
Board members also heard a presentation from Adams County Technical Institute Executive Director Shawn Eckenrode, who outlined a proposed budget amendment to add a second Allied Health instructor and make other staffing and compensation adjustments.
The meeting included several tense exchanges during the public comment period. A district resident, who has previously challenged the board’s adherence to the Sunshine Act, criticized district leadership and spending priorities. Several disputes arose over commenting procedures and decorum, leading to brief interruptions and stern warnings from board president Nick Lovell before the meeting returned to normal order.
