Borough council president Susan Naugle said Allen’s love of Gettysburg goes back to childhood visits with her family and that she has a “passion for portraying president Abraham Lincoln through art.”

Allen “has a passion for community and is also very tenacious. She can be unstoppable,” said Naugle.

Among her accomplishments are her work to create the summer season “100 Nights of Taps” series, and serving as an officer of the Lincoln Fellowship and as the master of ceremonies for Gettysburg Dedication Day.

Naugle noted that Allen has “supported and nurtured the Baltimore Street project and the Gettysburg Christmas Festival.”

Naugle said Allen had leant her artistic efforts to the community in many ways, for instance by designing bike racks for the borough and t-shirts for the Christmas Festival.

Allen had the original idea for the Long, Long, Long, Long Dinner party, “which brought the community together at a time when there is so much division in our country,” said Naugle.

The dinner event “made Gettysburg shine,” said Naugle

Main Street Gettysburg President and CEO Deborah Adamik told Allen “you have inspired me and this whole community so many ways.”

While presenting the award, Mayor Streeter said the key to the city is “the highest honor the borough can give.”
