The Adams County Sports Hall of Fame (ACSHOF) is calling for nominations for individuals as possible inductees into the hall of honored athletes. The ACSHOF is a chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Inc. The purpose of the non-profit organization is to honor those individuals who have brought lasting fame and recognition to Adams County, Pennsylvania, and to its people through their achievements in and contributions to athletics.
Individuals nominated for induction must have brought fame and recognition through their contributions to athletics while participating with an Adams County-based sports organization, or who maintained residency in Adams County while participating elsewhere. Also eligible are those persons who have brought similar recognition to Adams County through their contribution to sports in general or in managerial, promotional or other influential capacities. The criteria for induction into the ACSHOF are: 1) Nominees must be fifty-five years of age, or 2) have had twenty-five years of active participation, or 3) at any age, have not been active for at least three years in the sport.
Membership in the ACSHOF is required for the nomination of individuals, as well as participation in the election of those nominees into the Hall of Fame. Membership can be acquired through application and payment of dues as either a one-year member or as a lifetime member.
Application for membership must be made with a dues payment for this year’s dues of $15, or lifetime membership of $150. Application and dues must be mailed to: Adams County Sports Hall of Fame, c/o Parker Lerew, 232 Latimore Road, Gardners, PA 17324. A nomination form will then be sent out, with nominations being postmarked by June 26, 2023.
Ballots will be mailed to paying members in early August. Those persons elected for induction will be notified by the beginning of September. The ACSHOF Induction Dinner will be in November 2023, in the Sterner Building at the Gettysburg Recreation Park. The exact date is yet to be determined.
The success of ACSHOF as an organization is dependent on the support and number of its members. The ACSHOF is only as strong as its membership and looks to the future as the organization continues to grow. The more members, the stronger the venture.
