Despite the windy and cold weather there was a great turnout for the first-ever “Gettysburg Loves Love” event on Lincoln Square.
“Everybody was so happy and so in love,” said Gettysburg Mayor Frealing after re-marrying almost 100 couples from the balcony of the Gettysburg Hotel.
“For better and for worse; in sickness and in health… Love is patient; love is kind… ,” said the Mayor during the renewal ceremony. “Love bears all things; Love believes all things; Love endures all things; Love never fails,” she said.
“I am the luckiest person on earth today because not only am I the Mayor of the most welcoming town in the U.S.A., I have the honor and pleasure of sharing this special occasion with you.”
“You could feel the energy. It was amazing,” said Frealing.
“One of the couples had been married 70 years. I applaud them. They love each other and they love Gettysburg,” said Frealing.
“It was an honor to be a part of this event that celebrates love. We look forward to helping make this an annual event that is fun for our community and those visiting our community,” said Mark Wherley of Adams County Community Media.
Gettysburg Loves Love was sponsored by Adams County Community Media and Destination Gettysburg.
