Main Street Gettysburg, Inc. is excited to announce that it has successfully met the $100,000 Challenge Grant from the J. William Warehime Foundation, which will help fund operation of the Gettysburg Welcome Center.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from local businesses, corporations, and individuals that helped us meet this goal by the challenge deadline,” said Jill Sellers, President of Main Street Gettysburg. “This project is a vital addition to historic downtown Gettysburg, and we deeply appreciate the J. William Warehime Foundation for their commitment to its success.”
In 2024, Main Street Gettysburg launched an endowment campaign to support the operational costs of the new facility, including staffing, utilities, supplies, and maintenance. The campaign kicked off with a $100,000 contribution from Destination Gettysburg. Adams County Community Foundation manages the endowment fund.
Construction funding was secured through local fundraising, Borough investment, and a Congressional Appropriation Grant. Construction is set to begin in 2025, with a grand opening planned for 2026 in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
“The endowment will play a crucial role in ensuring long-term operational sustainability for the welcome center, as well as reducing the local tax burden and easing municipal costs of the project,” said Sellers.
The completion of the Warehime Challenge has boosted the endowment fund to over $300,000, bringing it closer to the ultimate goal of $1 million.
