Main Street Gettysburg Unveils Five-Year Strategic Plan, Calls Community to Public Meeting

Main Street Gettysburg will present its newly completed Five-Year Strategic Plan and host a public meeting this week as it advances an application for Designated status with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

The 2025–2029 plan, organizers say, is built to preserve Gettysburg’s historic character while boosting economic vitality and improving quality of life for residents and visitors. It lays out existing and new programs, proposed projects, identified challenges and solutions, partnership strategies, and next steps for the borough.

“We invite everyone to join us on August 28 and help shape the path forward,” said Jill Sellers, president and CEO of Main Street Gettysburg. “Now is the time for local leaders and residents to gather and collaborate for our community.”

The public meeting will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Seminary Ridge Refectory, 148 Seminary Ridge. The event is open to the public.

Main Street Gettysburg, a nonprofit founded in 1984, says the strategic plan provides the foundation for its application for state-designated Main Street status and will guide efforts to balance historic preservation with economic development. The organization’s recent accomplishments include a 10-year interpretive plan for historic preservation, the $7.5 million Steinwehr Avenue Revitalization Project, and more than $480,000 in commercial investment through its Façade Improvement Program in 2023, with a new round launched in 2025.

Other projects cited by Main Street Gettysburg include the Wayside Marker Project (2024), the annual A Gettysburg Christmas Festival, and the Gettysburg Gateway Connectivity Project. The organization also notes broader initiatives aimed at supporting the local economy, improving public infrastructure and lowering the tax burden associated with public projects.

Organizers encourage residents, business owners and stakeholders to attend the meeting to review the plan and offer input that will shape final priorities and implementation. For more information, contact Main Street Gettysburg at 717-337-3491 or visit www.mainstreetgettysburg.org.
